Didin's Essay

Communication through Facebook or Whatsapp

Updating states, uploading photos or pictures, chatting, and sending each other message are some activities that people can doinFacebook and Whatsapp. These two social networking servicesare now really being liked by lots of people in all over the world. People, at least, have one of these accounts, or even both to make communication to others. Facebook and what’s app are kinds of social networking services that functionally have the same goal but they differ in some ways.
The difference between Facebook and Whatsapp basically is that Facebook is kind of website while Whatsapp is an application. The users merely need to type facebook website address to open facebook homepage, and then log in it to enter their accounts. On the other hand, to enter whatsapp, the users need to own its application or software and install it first.
Either Facebook or whatsapp uses internet for communication. Both of them certainly need to be operated via online media. However, there is a slight distinction when people operate them in computer or laptop and mobile phone. Computer or laptop is more popular to apply facebook even though in mobile phone has been already available as facebook messenger began to be invented, and then it is practical for mobile phone. People prefer to use computer for facebook account as it serves wider and more complete view. The speed of facebook on computer or laptop is also faster than on mobile phone. In comparison to whatsapp, it is firstly only operated in mobile phone, and then it is developed to have on personal computer. For the users, whatsapp is still more interesting to operate via mobile phone since it seems to have functions as practical as Short Message Service in mobile phone. Thus, facebook is more popular on personal computer while whatsapp is popular on mobile phone.
Some features within facebook and what’s app also have similarities and differences. the similar features are status, photos posting, groups, and messages and inbox in forms of texts, photos and videos. In facebook exists some other features that make it more functional as news feed, friend, wall, timeline, like, timeline, notifications, pages and so on. It is also supported by some applications as facebook events, marketplace, notes, places, platform, questions, and others. Unlike facebook that has enormous features and applications, whatsapp only has the features in the similarities of both. Within the similar features, there are some differences in terms of effectiveness of utilization on media. If the users want more features from social networking services because they have more leisure time, it would be better to apply facebook on personal computer. On the contrary, if the users want simple features as the leisure time that they have is limited, whatsapp on mobile phone is more effective.
The founders of facebook and Whatsapp are also different people but the same nationality. Facebook was founded by Mark Elliot Zuckerberg, an American computer programmer. Meanwhile, Whatsapp was founded by two internet entrepreneurs and American computer programmers, Jan Koum and Brian Acton. Both facebook and whatsappwere firstly in different production but twitter was recently bought by facebook Inc. on February 2014.

Each of facebook and Whatsapp functionally has the same goal but they are different in some ways. The vivid difference is on the feature and the function of features. Eventually, whether people tend to socialize through facebook or Whatsapp it depends on their necessities and interests.

  1. Suddenly there is "twitter" in the fifth paragraph, I think you need to tell the twitter also, but just in general, to avoid the misunderstanding among the readers...
Overall, this nice essay uses good transition and arrangement...
