Parasites in Teenagers

“Give me one youth then I’ll change the world, because a youth is better than a thousand old man” (Soekarno). This inspiring sentence should be the motivation for the young generation/teenagers who have the role as the agent of change for this nation, Indonesia, the role of teenagers are needed for the advancement for this country because they have more power. Not only in the power of body and soul, but their thought that are smarter and braver also can be the generator for the broken machine that already faced many problems, such as poverty, corruption, nepotism etc. Unfortunately, this argument does not belong to the teenagers in these days because they have already affected by some dangerous parasites (social problems) which give many negative impacts. Not only for themselves, but those negative impacts also come and disturb into the society.  

The first parasite come from the improper socialization, either at school or home’s environments. The teenagers were influenced by their friends around their homes who have not good attitude or background, so they eventually follow what their bad friends do, such as consuming drugs or alcohol and stealing their parents’ money for getting those repulsive things, then having free sex wherever they want, and talking inappropriately in front of the society especially in front of their parents. Absolutely, these negative impacts will be serious problem toward the society. Bad friends cannot be judged as the ringleader of these problems, because sometimes the teenagers are trapped into negative doctrine by some organizations in their schools or universities. The big serious impact from this wrong doctrine is the young men voluntarily join in such a demonstration. Actually, demonstration should be the last way when they want to show their aspiration or solve the problem in front of some people or government without doing something bad and talking impolitely. Moreover, a demonstration recently happened from the students of University who judge and claim their lecturers as the barrier wall for their graduations. In fact, the lecturers did not want to give the graduation, because they are still not deserve getting the degree which is caused by the lacking that they have in their studies. It definitely shows that the young generation already face degradation moral in their lives. They already forget their lecturers who have been giving either science knowledge or moral knowledge during their studies.

The second parasite come from the digital technology which already spreads globally into teenagers lives. The existence of television and internet have been making the people easily get the information around the world. Not only for information, but also for communication with the people who live far from us. Unfortunately, the teenagers abuse it only for getting something useless. The movies or drama serials on TV often show the life style of western countries which is opposite with the life style of eastern people. For example, there is no firm prohibition for having free sex and drinking alcohol in western countries. It possibly happen in youth’s lives and it will give continuous impacts or serious illness which will quit their future, such as HIV/AIDS, gonorrhea, liver cancer and death. Another impact from internet is playing game online which really waste their time. They will forget their homework even prefer to playing game for hours than studying at school. Ignoring the school is not the end of this problem, they probably do not want to listen to their parents and never pay attention to their health.  They prefer to spend their money for game online than buy some useful things for themselves, such as books, education magazines, healthy foods etc. Moreover, some positive activities such as praying, reciting holy book, and doing some exercises (playing football, swimming, etc.) will never be their close friends anymore.

All people know and realize that the teenagers is the bridge of prosperity for this country, Indonesia. Their rational thoughts, aspirations and their power will heal the corruptness and help forward the development. Therefore, the parents have to pay more attention for their children, but we cannot count heavily on our parents’ duty. We as the teenagers do not have to always depend to our parents, because we already know how to choose something good or bad for ourselves. We should think twice before deciding or doing everything that we want to do, because everything has consequence or risk whether it is positive or negative. The decision is in ourselves, as the teenagers. If we really want to give better change for this beloved country, just leave those useless things, do the useful things and prove it from now.
